Default GW Account Security and Hackers

I am posting this as to all what has been going on with duping and some possibly having their accounts hacked.I would like to why NcSoft doesn't back up their databases as they are responsible for everything lost on your account.I do believe that most of the account holders know enough not to give out their information as well as not to download something they don't know about. They NcSoft can't do this I would feel safer if it was kept on my own hard drive all my account information like other games I have.

I know this person who had their account hacked twice so I ask how safe are the is the database at NcSoft? It would be best to back it up evey 5 to 10 hours. We do this over at STG and I would imagine Idie does as wel with The Guru to prevent from being hacked.Where is the rep from NcSoft on this site as Alex is no longer here.I know we have Gaile and Andrew.

This is the thread I am talking about and I almost thought I had my accout hacked.

they have a continous record not just every few hours so they can rollback the game to any point they need to.

remember that one rollback we had?

if they cant back up where did it come from?

most wont do something careless? ha ha they wont

on your own hard drive so you can hack it to your hearts content? hell bandini no on that

NCsoft IS RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERY THING YOU LOSE DUE TO CARELESSNESS?

biggest laugh of the day.

I am not talking about a roll back I am talking about backing up the database it is not creating a restorationpoint it is just simply reloading the data. What is wrong with having it on your own HDD it is not like someone can edit the file as it won't match what is on the server and won't let you in.

listen carefully

you have to back up the data to do a roll back so yes Anet carefully backs up the game.

part 2 makes no sense at all

if what you have on your hard drive doesnt match what is on the server it wont let you in?

then why have it as for example you sell your precious by accident the server will not let you in to restore your precious from your hard drive anyway

ArenaNet does back up it's databases. They don't restore hacked accounts from backups for the same reason they don't return scammed goods to people who are scammed - support should never offer reimbursement because it opens the door to corruption and people trying to scam support.

Everything is wrong with that. The reason why we don't have hacked weapons that deal 500 damage a pop and characters with 10,000 hit points or attribute points in this game is that all data is stored server side, where it is inaccessible to reverse engeniering and tampering with

Then, what would be the purpose? If the data was only left there to rot, why do it? If it was saved locally as a backup measure, there would be the possibility that at some point the backup was needed and rolled back on the life server. And that is the point where we would get our hacked chars and items.

As mentioned before, Anet does do backups. They would be very foolish not to do them. Our character data is an inherent basis of their business. If they didn't have backups, something as trivial as a hard disk failure in their servers could mean their bankruptcy.

As for account security, I am with Anet: Almost every "hacked" account is the users own fault for being careless with his access data or using very weak passwords.

Anet isn't here to bail you out when your login info gets stolen. You have to prevent it from being stolen in the first place.

If it was a bug that caused your characters and items to disappear, then that's a different story. Anet can probably track who logged in or where the items went.
